Even though the film is long it never drags. That you do not get the sense that you've seen this video before. It's not Serpico. It's not really The Wire. It is not The Sopranos. While much is being conducted, the story is not hard to follow. There's action, but it is not an "action movie". Both Denzel Washington and Russell Crowe act convincingly and give depth to their particular characters. The film leaves you curious about more about about happened on the lead characters. You value them that significantly. Now *that's* motion picture making. Enjoy American Gangster with no preconceived ideas. Even though the film is long it never drags.
